WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) participated today in a bipartisan House Agriculture Committee hearing with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue to discuss the state of our country's rural economy.
Congressman Panetta spoke with Secretary Perdue about agriculture's labor shortage, calling it the most important issue faced by producers on the central coast of California. He also asked Secretary Perdue about interagency efforts to improve the current H-2A visa process.

"Tonight, President Trump delivered his first State of the Union address. Although he spoke of unity and compromise, his actions have yet to show this commitment. He has maintained his scare tactics about immigration, politicized our national security, and spoke of his so-called "America-first" trade agenda that would put California agriculture last.
More than a dozen members of Congress, mostly Democrats but at least one Florida Republican, are bringing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program recipients with them to President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address Tuesday night to call attention to the Obama-era immigration program, which is in jeopardy now.
Seven of the congressional leaders doing so are from California, including Rep. Scott Peters, D-San Diego.
