Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), Salud Carbajal (CA-24), and Julia Brownley (CA-26) requested that Congress include a fix to the disruptive wildfire budgeting practice in their must-pass FY 2018 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.

Monterey County >> National School Walk Out is planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m. with promoters of the nationwide event calling for students to leave class for 17 minutes, representing the 17 lives lost in the recent Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School school shooting in Florida.

But, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is encouraging students to remain on campus in the interest of student safety and encourages school sites to plan activities where students and staff can express their voices on campus.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, along with Reps. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., and Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., today introduced the Commercial Engagement through Ocean Technology (CENOTE) Act. This bicameral, bipartisan legislation would advance the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) use of unmanned maritime systems, encourage private sector research and development, and ensure that marine data is readily available and reliable.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) this week cosponsored H.R. 4052, the Keep Americans Safe Act, to prohibit the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of high-capacity magazines for firearms which hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

"High-capacity magazines allow an assailant to fire dozens or even hundreds of rounds at a time with reduced need to reload," said Congressman Panetta. "By limiting this capability, we can help law enforcement from being outgunned and seek to reduce deadly shooting incidents."
