LGBTQ+ Issues

Last Congress, we took an important step forward by passing the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act. This critical action enshrines same-sex marriages under federal law, to protect and safeguard the hard-won freedom to marry.
But more action is needed. As a proud member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I’m continuing to fight for the bipartisan Equality Act, a comprehensive, nondiscrimination bill to extend civil rights protections to LGBTQ+ Americans. I also continue pushing for my legislation to ensure children of servicemembers, who identify as trans, can continue to receive the care they need.
When we celebrate our LGBTQ neighbors, stand with them as allies, stand up to discrimination and hate, and listen to their voices and their stories, we make our community stronger.
