SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that two rural development grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have been awarded to California's 20th Congressional District. The El Pajaro Community Development Corporation received a grant totaling $40,000 and the Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association received a grant totaling $38,000 from USDA. The grants will be used to increase economic security in the region, and provide skill building and business education opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs.

SALINAS, CA – Today Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), along with Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18), Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA-12), and 10 other Northern California Members of Congress sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) demanding an investigation into whether Verizon's throttling of the ‘unlimited' data plan of the Santa Clara County Fire Department were ‘unfair or deceptive,' pursuant to Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that communities in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties will receive federal grants totaling over $2 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grants are provided through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investments Partnership (HOME) program.

Monterey County will receive funding totaling $1,394,327 through the CDBG. The city of Santa Cruz will receive funding totaling $543,095 through the CDBG and a HOME grant totaling $382,425.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that the University Corporation at Monterey Bay received a federal grant totaling $4,998,980.00 from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The award will support high-achieving, low-income students with demonstrated financial need at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), Hartnell College, California State University Dominguez Hills, and El Camino College.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve received a $685,000.00 federal grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). These funds will support Phase II of the Reserve's Visitor Services Enhancement Project.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta announced that Mesa Del Rey Airport received a grant totaling $454,050 from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Federal Aviation Administration. The funds will be used to rehabilitate the lighting systems along the edge of Runway 11/29, to ensure safe airfield operations in low visibility conditions.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that he will be holding town hall meetings in Salinas, Watsonville, and Monterey. These meetings will be opportunities for members of our community to share their ideas and concerns about issues affecting the central coast of California. WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) joined Reps. Mike Thompson (CA-05), John Garamendi (CA-03), Jared Huffman (CA-02) and other bipartisan members of the California delegation, including Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA-12), in writing to the President to ask him to immediately grant California's request for a Major Disaster Declaration for the destructive wildfires that have hit Lake, Mendocino, and Napa Counties over the past two weeks.
