June 3, 2022

SALINAS, CA – Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) wrote and sent a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai supporting her efforts to secure a multilateral agreement to curb harmful fishing subsidies at this month's twelfth Ministerial Conference (MC12). Governments around the world are providing tens of billion in subsidies, which has led to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and forced labor on fishing vessels.

Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced that four Santa Cruz County arts programs received federal grants totaling $100,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts.  The Arts Council of Santa Cruz County received $20,000, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music received $30,000, Kuumbwa Jazz Society received $20,000, and Museum of Art & History at the McPherson Center received $30,000.

Today, Reps. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19) authored and sent a letter to the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) requesting that they prioritize and expedite the initial project scoping process required to start the Zebra Mussel Eradication Project at the San Justo Reservoir.

Today, U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) introduced the Plant Biostimulant Act.  This legislation authored by Congressman Panetta and introduced with Rep. Jim Baird (R-IN-4) would create a uniform process for approving commercial plant biostimulant use and require more federal research on the technology’s benefits for soil health.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced the winners of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for high school students throughout California's 20th Congressional District. The U.S. House of Representatives sponsors this competition each spring to recognize and honor talented young artists from each congressional district across the country. The scholarship provided to this year's winner was also sponsored by the Santa Cruz and Monterey Art Councils.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted for the bipartisan Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022. This legislation will ensure that shipments of urgently needed weapons systems, ammunition, and military assistance arrive in Ukrainian hands faster and more efficiently. This Lend-Lease bill is a revival of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Lend-Lease policy enacted in March 1941, which helped win the second World War.


April 15, 2022

SALINAS, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) returned from a weeklong official visit to several North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries. The trip was led by House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) and included a delegation of nine Republican and Democratic members of Congress. The members visited Germany, Denmark, Poland, and Greenland and met with European leaders, Ukrainian refugees, U.S. troops, and diplomatic personnel.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley), along with Reps. Darin LaHood (R-Illinois), Albio Sires (D-New Jersey), and John Rose (R-Tennessee) introduced the CERTS Tax Exemption Act to provide relief to the motorcoach, school bus, and passenger vessel industries devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, Coronavirus Economic Relief for Transportation Services (CERTS) Act grants, while extremely beneficial for those industries, only replaced about 20% of their lost revenue from 2020.

SALINAS, CA –Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley), alongside Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), introduced the Amplifying Processing of Livestock in the United States (A-PLUS) Act, which would fix regulatory roadblocks to increasing meat processing capacity and allow livestock auction market owners to invest in small and regional packing facilities.

SALINAS, CA – Today, the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) awarded its first ever baccalaureate degrees in foreign language to two of its students. The bestowing of this type of higher educational degree was made possible due to the Defense Language Improvement (DLI) Act that was authored by Rep. Jimmy Panetta and included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2022.
