Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted for a public safety package of four bills that will provide federal funding for local police departments for training and retention programs while also bolstering mental health and victim services. The provisions of this package draw on evidence-based methods that have worked for law enforcement, public health, and victim services personnel across the country. Rep. Panetta was an original co-sponsor of the Invest to Protect Act and helped bring this legislative package to the floor for a vote today.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) announced a $9,483,367 grant through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program to Monterey Regional Airport. The grant specifically will be for the Safety Enhancement Program (SEP) Phase C Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Facility relocation. This funding will provide the necessary resources for the design, engineering, construction, and construction management of the newly relocated Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility at the Monterey Regional Airport.

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it will conduct a sampling assignment of a select few farms producing and harvesting leafy greens in the Salinas Valley agricultural region of California from September 19 to October 30, 2022.  After Rep. Panetta’s constant communication with local producers and continued advocacy with the FDA, he secured improved procedures that will be more targeted and transparent in conducting this sampling assignment during this 2022 harvest season.

PASO ROBLES, CA – This week, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) and his congressional colleagues, Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24), Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA-16), and Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19), conducted a listening session for the 2023 Farm Bill in Paso Robles, California. Hosted by Rep. Carbajal and chaired by Rep. Costa, the listening session was attended by agricultural stakeholders including local conventional and organic farmers and farmworkers, producers, shippers, ranchers, cattlemen, vintners, and nutrition advocates.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced two federal grants for local water infrastructure projects funded through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Monterey One Water will receive $10,316,822 and Soquel Creek Water District will receive $20,925,000. Monterey One Water will use the funding for a Groundwater Replenishment Project and Soquel Creek Water District will use it for both a Groundwater Replenishment Project and Seawater Intrusion Prevention Project.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley), joined by Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24), authored and sent another letter to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland urging her to use her emergency authority under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to designate the western monarch butterfly as an endangered species. The letter was sent immediately after the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) officially designated the monarch butterfly as endangered.
