SALINAS – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that the University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz) has received two federal grants from the National Institutes of Health. UC Santa Cruz received one federal grant totaling $269,500 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to be used to research how the human body defends against infections.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will formally reopen the public comment period on a federal review of designations and expansions of national marine sanctuaries and marine national monuments. The public comment period will open for an additional 15 days, starting Monday, July 31, 2017.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), announced that the Monterey Regional Airport has been awarded a federal grant totaling $1,814,764 from the Department of Transportation.

"Our local economy relies heavily on tourism and local business travel," said Congressman Panetta. "This federal grant will provide our regional airport with the necessary funds needed to keep travelers safe."

Eshoo (CA-18), Jackie Speier (CA-14), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) released the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) response to recommendations made by the San Francisco Airport/Community Roundtable and the Select Committee on South Bay Arrivals. The FAA's Initiative response includes recommendations determined to be feasible as well as not feasible from an operational and safety perspective.

WASHINGTON – Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2781, the Ensuring Veteran Enterprise Participation in Strategic Sourcing Act. This legislation expands government contract opportunities for veteran-owned small businesses and ensures that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is complying with federal law. The bipartisan bill, coauthored by Congressman Neal Dunn (R-FL-02) and Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20), passed with unanimous consent.
