WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted to pass a package of bills through the House Ways and Means Committee to make crucial investments to create jobs, lower the cost of health care, and support America's workers and families. This package makes up key portions of President Biden's Build Back Better Act. Next week, the Ways and Means Committee will continue consideration of this package to provide tax cuts to working families, incentivize clean energy, and strengthen our healthcare system.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will allow pre-harvest testing on romaine lettuce from the Salinas Valley, a substantial improvement from a 2020 requirement for finished-product testing. The updated testing procedures will ensure safe, healthy product can once again move across our border to feed communities around the world.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that the Department of Defense will seek authorization to require the COVID-19 vaccine for all active-duty military service members. In March 2021, Rep. Panetta and a small group of his colleagues sent a letter to the White House requesting that President Joe Biden issue a waiver of informed consent to require vaccines for all military service members.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley), Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX), and Congresswoman Lucy McBath (D-GA) re-introduced the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Modernization Act to simplify and modernize federal student loan forgiveness programs. The U.S. Government Accountability Office has previously found major deficiencies in the U.S. Department of Education's (DOE) administration of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program and Temporary Expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness (TEPSLF) program.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced that the University of California, Santa Cruz will receive a $3.12 million grant from the National Cancer Institute for protein-RNA interactions in cancer biology research. Dr. Jeremy Sanford, a Professor at UCSC studying the roles of protein-RNA interactions in gene regulation and human inherited diseases, will manage the project.

Parents on the Central Coast could see money from the IRS hit their bank accounts as soon as Thursday, according to Congressman Jimmy Panetta who joined Santa Cruz County leaders in announcing the new, more robust, family tax credit.

"We used the tax code to get money to people who need it the most, to working parents," Panetta said Monday at the Watsonville City Plaza. "We enhanced the tax credit, so you don't have to wait until you file taxes… you're going to get it every month."
