Congressman Panetta Calls for Emergency Federal Funding Following January Storm Damage to Nacimiento  Fergusson Road

Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) has sent a letter to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) leadership requesting accelerated funding through the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) program to support critical repairs of Nacimiento-Fergusson Road in the Monterey District of the Los Padres National Forest (LPNF). The funding will be used to repair damages sustained during the January 2021 winter storms.

This week, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted for the House passage of H.R. 1, the For The People Act. The legislative package of pro-democracy and anti-corruption reforms will help end the era of big and dark special-interest money in politics, improve voting access, promote election integrity and security, strengthen campaign finance transparency and oversight, fortify ethics laws, and impose greater ethics enforcement for public servants.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted in support of the House passage of H.R.1280, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. This bill will better hold law enforcement officials accountable for misconduct, bolster transparency through data collection pertaining to unlawful behavior and negligent use of force, and improve police training and department policies nationwide.

Congressman Panetta Supports Landmark LGBTQ Civil Rights Legislation, the Equality Act

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) joined his House colleagues in passing H.R. 5, the Equality Act. The bill would provide explicit, permanent protections against discrimination based on an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, public accommodations, federal funding, credit, education, and jury service. It also prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federal funding and public accommodations.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced that Santa Cruz County will receive a $2.75 million grant in COVID-19 Recovery and Resiliency Project funding to help small businesses keep their doors open as they endure the pandemic. This federal funding comes from the CARES Act, which directs the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) to allocate funding to municipalities.

Congressman Panetta is calling on the President to include funding for projects, like the Pajaro River, that will greatly benefit economically disadvantaged communities, such as Pajaro and Watsonville.

This week, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) directly worked on over a half of President Joe Biden's COVID-19 Rescue legislation that is in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Panetta attended 18 hours of hearings that took place over two days, and as part of the Agriculture Committee, Congressman Panetta attended a seven-hour hearing.
