WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) released the following statement after President Donald Trump's joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A BIPARTISAN group of lawmakers this week introduced legislation that would require the president to submit to Congress any proposal to adjust the country's tariffs on goods and services.
Under the bill proposed by U.S. Rep. Jimmy Panetta and five other legislators, members of Congress would have 60 days to review any tariff proposal submitted by the president.
The bill would "amend the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to require congressional approval before the president adjusts imports that are determined to threaten [or] impair national security," according to the bill.
Congressman Jimmy Panetta released a statement on the passing of Bishop Richard Garcia from the Diocese of Monterey.
Garcia died Wednesday due to complications from Alzeimer's Disease and led the local diocese for the past 11 years. According to the National Catholic Reporter, Garcia was diagnosed with Alzeimer's in April and his health declines rapidly.

The Central Coast's congressman, Jimmy Panetta, was one of four California representatives to visit a facility housing immigrant children separated from their parents, his office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Panetta (CA-20) joined Reps. Mike Thompson (CA-05), Doris Matsui (CA-06) and Brad Sherman (CA-30) on a trip to a private, nonprofit facility about an hour from Washington, D.C., Thompson said in a Youtube video.
