WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) released the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision to pause the Trump Administration's plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.

"I applaud the Supreme Court's decision to halt the inclusion of an unnecessary citizenship question in the 2020 Census. The Administration's rationale for adding the question is inadequate and based on politics over sound policy.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced that the Salinas Municipal Airport was awarded a federal grant totaling $495,540.00 from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funding will be used for runway rehabilitation.

A 2015 initial study for the Monterey Regional Airport's master plan lays out a few ambitious goals to attain within six to 10 years, including construction of a new terminal and demolition of the existing terminal, anticipated to be a $200 million project all told. This legislation allows the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to require minimum standards for paid tax preparers. Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) have introduced a companion bill, S. 1192, in the Senate.

MONTEREY – The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center will be able to confer a Bachelor of Arts degree in a foreign language to any graduate who fulfills the requirements for the degree if legislation Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, has introduced becomes law.

"Expanding (the Center's) accreditation authority provides advanced learning opportunities, supports recruitment and re-enlistment initiatives, and incentivizes higher level language learning to better support defense, intelligence, and law enforcement requirements," said Rep. Panetta.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) introduced the bipartisan Defense Language Improvement (DLI) Act authorizing the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) to confer a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign language upon any graduate who fulfills the degree requirements. Currently, DLIFLC may confer an Associate of Arts degree in a foreign language.

TO HONOR those who lost their lives during the allied invasion of Nazi-controlled Europe 75 years ago, Democratic Rep. Jimmy Panetta was part of a congressional delegation that visited France Thursday.

Panetta attended D-Day ceremonies at the U.S. cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, and some of the beaches where the World War II invasion took place on June 6, 1944. The delegation included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and more than 50 others.
