As a pharmacist, I've seen incredible advancements in medicine in my lifetime.

Over the course of my career, I saw the creation and evolution of truly life-changing treatments for patients who would have been without hope when I first started in the profession.

However, if the life-saving medication is not affordable, it does no good for the patients who desperately need it. That is why I believe Congress needs to be laser focused on lowering the costs of prescription drugs.

SANTA CRUZ — Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, introduced legislation Tuesday to create a tax credit to encourage transit agencies to use zero-emission buses.

The Green Bus Tax Credit Act would apply a 10% manufacturer's tax credit for electric and hydrogen fuel-cell buses. The tax credit is an incentive to purchase zero-emission buses by reducing the amount of income tax transit agencies will owe the state.
