Californians are increasingly faced with housing insecurity as 47 percent of our state's voters say they cannot find an affordable place to live, according to a recent Quinnipiac poll. Clearly, the lack of an affordable housing supply is one of the root causes of high housing costs in California. Congress can alleviate this crisis by providing more federal tax credits for more affordable housing.

Over the last 40 years, Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas has delivered low-cost medical care to thousands of local agricultural workers and their families, as well as other low income residents and those with no health insurance. Its staff have also delivered more than 10,000 newborns since 1986, according to the nonprofit's website.

In 2018, Clinica served more than 50,000 Monterey County residents in 195,000 visits at 12 clinic sites and through its mobile medical program and a dentistry practice.

Naomi Earp, the Agriculture deputy assistant secretary for civil rights, who ran into trouble trying to get the Senate to confirm her as assistant secretary, has won the ire of Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, who chairs the House Agriculture Nutrition, Oversight and Department Operations Subcommittee.

Fudge expressed indignation with Earp at many points during a November 19 oversight hearing, but was particularly upset by Earp's statement that some USDA employees use Equal Employment Opportunity complaints to punish managers and supervisors.

MONTEREY — Rep. Jimmy Panetta is hoping to pump the brakes on a federal plan opening up more than 720,000 acres of Central Coast land to new oil and gas drilling.

Legislation introduced Wednesday by Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, would block the Bureau of Land Management from leasing new oil and gas wells on California's Central Coast until the agency completes an additional review that accounts for a wider range of environmental impacts.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) introduced the California Central Coast Conservation Act, establishing a moratorium on all new oil and gas leasing on federal public land on the central coast of California.

The legislation is in direct response to the Administration's recent decision to allow for new oil and gas leasing and development on over 720,000 acres of public land in Central California, primarily in Fresno, Monterey, and San Benito counties.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted for the Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act. The bipartisan, bicameral agreement requires phone companies to offer screening technology to identify and block spam robocalls at no cost to customers. The legislation passed 417-3.
