SALINAS, CA – Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced two federal grants for local water infrastructure projects funded through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Monterey One Water will receive $10,316,822 and Soquel Creek Water District will receive $20,925,000. Monterey One Water will use the funding for a Groundwater Replenishment Project and Soquel Creek Water District will use it for both a Groundwater Replenishment Project and Seawater Intrusion Prevention Project.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley), joined by Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24), authored and sent another letter to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland urging her to use her emergency authority under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to designate the western monarch butterfly as an endangered species. The letter was sent immediately after the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) officially designated the monarch butterfly as endangered.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today Rep. Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) authored and introduced the Housing Access Improvement Act along with Reps. Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Judy Chu (CA-27), Barbara Lee (CA-13), Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18), Ted W. Lieu (CA-33), and Eric Swalwell (CA-15). This legislation would increase the statutory cap of Project Based Vouchers (PBVs) from 20 percent to 50 percent, ultimately allowing housing agencies to spur new locations where housing vouchers are redeemable.

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted for the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act. This legislation would enshrine the equality of same-sex and interracial marriages under federal law as guaranteed by the Obergefell v. Hodges and Loving v. Virginia decisions. Both the Senate and House introduced this legislation after Justice Clarence Thomas explicitly called for the Supreme Court to consider overturning the Obergefell v. Hodges decision recognizing the Constitutional right to marriage equality.

Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) praised the Biden Administration’s proposal to halt the sale of new leases for off-shore drilling on the California coast. The proposal, announced by Interior Department Secretary Deb Haaland, signals the Administration’s intentions to halt all lease sales through the National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for the next five years between 2023 and 2028.

Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) and Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) sent a letter to Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jennifer Granholm, urging her to consider and allocate funding from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) for microgrid expansion and local power resilience.  The IIJA authorizes $5 billion for grants to protect the electric grid from extreme weather, wildfires, and natural disasters.

Today, Reps. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) and Tom Rice (R-SC) introduced the Expanding Trade Sanctions on Russia Act.  This bipartisan legislation would embargo additional products imported from Russia, including all items with over $50 million in 2021 import value.  Moreover, the legislation does not include already embargoed goods and fertilizer inputs.  As a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, Rep. Panetta previously supported the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act which was signed into law and bans fossil fuel imports from Russia.
