SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy (CA -20) announced that the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey received a federal grant totaling $205,950 from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant provides Mainstream housing vouchers for affordable housing and an array of supportive services for non-elderly persons with disabilities.

At the rate the gender pay gap is closing, women in the U.S. can't expect to be paid equally until at least 2119. The sad reality is that women are paid 80 percent of what men are paid for the same work — and the gap is even worse for women of color. Black women make just 68 percent, and Latina women just 54 percent, of what their male counterparts earn. Veterans Resource Centers can be found on college campuses across the nation, but funding for them is scarce. A bill in Congress could change that.

Army veteran Gilbert Bernabe is not your traditional college student. He served in both Iraq and Afghanistan before starting work on his bachelor's degree. By then, he was 35 and going through a divorce.

He credits support from on campus Veterans Resource Centers at Hartnell College and Cal State Monterey Bay for keeping him on track. He graduates this semester.

MONTEREY, Calif. - Un veterano latino de Salinas que sirvió en la guerra de Irak dos veces ahora esta estudiando para ser un trabajador social y es uno de 100 alumnos veteranos en la Universidad Estatal de la Bahía de Monterey, la cual podría beneficiarse de un nuevo proyecto de ley llamada HR-67- 66.

"Estoy muy contento con la presentación de Jimmy Panetta," dijo José Luis Ramírez.

The legislation authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide federal grants to public universities to establish, maintain, and provide services at Veterans Resource Centers on campuses. Moreover, it incentivizes priority registration for veteran and military-connected students.

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that two rural development grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have been awarded to California's 20th Congressional District. The El Pajaro Community Development Corporation received a grant totaling $40,000 and the Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association received a grant totaling $38,000 from USDA. The grants will be used to increase economic security in the region, and provide skill building and business education opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs.
