WASHINGTON — Though 22 House Republicans voted against a bipartisan resolution supporting NATO this week, several said afterward that they actually do support the alliance and not what they saw as a Democratic effort to tie the hands of President Donald Trump.
The House of Representatives resoundingly passed a bipartisan measure Tuesday to prohibit the Trump administration from using federal funds to pull the United States out of NATO, rebuking the president for his frequent attacks against the strategic alliance and suggesting he might seek to withdraw.
The vast majority of House Republicans joined Democrats to pass the bill by a vote of 357 to 22, after members of both parties gave impassioned speeches for why the alliance was so vital to preserve and protect.

The bill, which passed in a 357-22 vote, includes a provision rejecting any efforts made by President Trump to potentially withdraw from the treaty. All the "no" votes were from conservative Republicans.
The House voted overwhelmingly Tuesday night to block President Trump from spending any federal money to withdraw from NATO and to set a formal policy that the U.S. will "remain a member in good standing."
"This branch of government fully supports the alliance, the collective defense of our allies, and peace across the North Atlantic region," House Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., said during a floor debate.
The bill passed easily in a 357-22 vote — all the "no" votes came from Republicans.
