The San Benito Health Foundation in Hollister has received $2.5 million grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to allow it to continue providing a wide range of primary health care services.

Congressman Jimmy Panetta vowed he would push federal officials to speed up the process of reopening the long-closed San Justo Reservoir and Clear Creek Recreation Area, both in San Benito County.

Panetta made his statements at a town hall Saturday when asked about San Justo Reservoir by Hollister Mayor Ignacio Velazquez.

Panetta responded how the San Justo Reservoir, closed since 2008 due to a zebra mussel infestation, is going through bureaucratic steps. But he referenced ways he can "light a fire under the butts" of the feds to get it done.

Ground was broken Monday on Pajaro Valley High's long-awaited football field and track, a project that has been in the works since the Watsonville high school first opened its doors in 2004.

WATSONVILLE — Dozens of people gathered in a grassy field abutting Pajaro Valley High School Monday for a groundbreaking ceremony to herald in the construction that will bring the school's long awaited athletic facility.

"Today is a day of celebration," Pajaro Valley Unified School District Superintendent Michelle Rodriguez said. "Today is a day of equity for our students, specifically equity for Pajaro Valley High School students, to ensure they have the facilities they need."

In November, the American people elected Democrats to take back the reins of power in the House of Representatives and put it back to work on their behalf. In our first 100 days in the majority, we have begun to deliver on that promise.
