MONTEREY – The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center will be able to confer a Bachelor of Arts degree in a foreign language to any graduate who fulfills the requirements for the degree if legislation Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, has introduced becomes law.

"Expanding (the Center's) accreditation authority provides advanced learning opportunities, supports recruitment and re-enlistment initiatives, and incentivizes higher level language learning to better support defense, intelligence, and law enforcement requirements," said Rep. Panetta.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) introduced the bipartisan Defense Language Improvement (DLI) Act authorizing the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) to confer a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign language upon any graduate who fulfills the degree requirements. Currently, DLIFLC may confer an Associate of Arts degree in a foreign language.

TO HONOR those who lost their lives during the allied invasion of Nazi-controlled Europe 75 years ago, Democratic Rep. Jimmy Panetta was part of a congressional delegation that visited France Thursday.

Panetta attended D-Day ceremonies at the U.S. cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, and some of the beaches where the World War II invasion took place on June 6, 1944. The delegation included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and more than 50 others.

PAYING TRIBUTE to one of Monterey County's — and the world's — favorite entertainers, Congressman Jimmy Panetta introduced legislation May 30 to honor singer and actress Doris Day, who died in Carmel Valley May 13 at 97.

The legislation is co-sponsored by Congressman Don Bacon, a Republican from Nebraska.

Panetta said Day left behind an impressive legacy.

SALINAS, Calif. - President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel marked the 75th anniversary of D-Day with speeches honoring the sacrifice of Allied soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 to begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi tyranny.

Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D) was among a Congressional delegation that attended the ceremonies.

U.S. Congressional delegation to Normandy includes Speaker Pelosi, Minority Leader McCarthy

MONTEREY – On the 75th anniversary of the Normandy invasion, Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, will be part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation in France to pay homage to the memory of those who fought for the Allies on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

The delegation includes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy with as many as 60 other members of Congress.

He was selected to be a part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation of U.S. Representatives, along with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, to recognize the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the American and Allied forces who launched the liberation of Europe during World War II.
