SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's memorandum ordering the Pentagon to ban transgender Americans from enlisting or commissioning in the military. The memorandum also halts some medically necessary transition-related health care for transgender service members.

SALINAS – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's decision to revoke Executive Order 13690, signed by President Obama in January 2015. Executive Order 13690 required building standards for government-funded infrastructure projects to reduce exposure to flooding from sea level rise.

SALINAS – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), along with House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson (MN-7) and Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16), hosted an agriculture roundtable session at Hartnell College in Salinas, California. The Congressmen held the roundtable to hear the concerns and priorities of local agriculture producers, farm workers, and nutrition organizations regarding the nation's food policy, including the Farm Bill.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay, a regional non-profit housing corporation in the City of Santa Cruz, will receive a federal grant totaling $315,000 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) award will be used for first-time homebuyer mortgage assistance and new construction in Los Esteros Court.

SALINAS – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that health centers in San Benito County and Santa Cruz County have received federal grants totaling over $3 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The San Benito Health Foundation has received a federal grant totaling $1,806,177 and Santa Cruz County has received a federal grant totaling $1,231,719.

SALINAS – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that the University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz) has received two federal grants from the National Institutes of Health. UC Santa Cruz received one federal grant totaling $269,500 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to be used to research how the human body defends against infections.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will formally reopen the public comment period on a federal review of designations and expansions of national marine sanctuaries and marine national monuments. The public comment period will open for an additional 15 days, starting Monday, July 31, 2017.
