House Agriculture Chairman Mike Conaway is delaying the planned debate of a new farm bill to negotiate changes in its nutrition title that could win some Democratic support.

Democrats have rebelled at provisions in the draft bill that would increase the number of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients subject to work requirements and use the savings from reducing enrollment to expand state employment and training programs.

Monterey County >> National School Walk Out is planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m. with promoters of the nationwide event calling for students to leave class for 17 minutes, representing the 17 lives lost in the recent Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School school shooting in Florida.

But, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is encouraging students to remain on campus in the interest of student safety and encourages school sites to plan activities where students and staff can express their voices on campus.

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - New proposed legislation could make unmanned ocean exploration a much more common sight on the Central Coast.

The new bill is being co-sponsored by congressman Jimmy Panetta and could build strong partnerships with those exploring our oceans.

“Our service members need adequate resources and support to execute their missions,” Panetta said. “When our troops operate in remote areas far from their traditional support bases, that support includes available and accessible quick reaction forces. If the service members in Niger did not have the resources required, Congress needs to execute its oversight responsibilities and ensure that such lapses in security do not happen again.”

The new recycling facility is said to help the state reach its 75 percent recycling goal by 2020. It's cutting edge technology with big implications for the future of recycling on the Central Coast.

The 24 million dollar building once called the future of recycling on the Central Coast is now here in the present.

Washington D.C. >> Congressman Jimmy Panetta has formally introduced the Immigrant Witness and Victim Protection Act aimed at keeping people in the country illegally from being detained or deported if they are cooperating with law enforcement.

With his co-author Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (Dem-Wa.), Panetta (Dem-Carmel Valley.) introduced the bill on Tuesday and touted it as a way to ensure witnesses and victims trust law enforcement enough to report and help prosecute crimes.
