WASHINGTON — Rep. Jimmy Panetta and Rep. Anna Eshoo announced Friday that they secured extensions to fund U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration emergency repair projects in Santa Cruz County, according to a release from Panetta's office.

After storms in 2016 and 2017, the Federal Highway Administration granted emergency relief funds to address road damages. These funds provide local and state governments the ability to rebuild critical transportation infrastructure and ensure the safety of our residents.

Army Pfc. Robert Fletcher restarted his life in Ann Arbor after the Korean War, the trauma of combat and captivity never far from his mind.

He'd survived nearly three years of extreme hunger, freezing temperatures and psychological abuse as a prisoner of war in Camp No. 5 along the banks of the Yalu River that divides China and North Korea.

Back home, Fletcher's harrowing experience manifested itself as a myriad of health problems and severe PTSD that cropped up daily until his death at age 85.

MONTEREY – A bill to address the potentially deadly valley fever disease was co-introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, in December.

HR 5438, the End Valley Fever Now Act, was introduced on Dec. 16 and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and to the Committee on Ways and Means.
