Panetta says the "any plan to alter health care "should not be made in haste.""
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) released the following statement in response to President Trump's latest Muslim ban executive order:
"President Trump's latest executive order banning travelers from six predominantly Muslim countries appears to be just as unconstitutional and un-American as his first. This ban, which was allegedly rewritten to withstand legal scrutiny, again fails to justify discrimination against refugees and travelers based on their nationality and religion.
At a "Members' Day" hearing, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) urged Culberson and the rest of the subcommittee to fully fund NOAA, emphasizing the economic importance to coastal communities. "I strongly urge this subcommittee to invest in our nation's largest natural resource: our ocean," he said. "It is important that we not only protect our oceans for recreational purposes but for our $282 billion 'blue economy.' ... These programs help educate our youth, protect our seafood that reaches our tables, preserves the marine environment and employs thousands of Americans along our coasts."
“The president’s idea for a Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement department instills fear in and encourages discrimination against immigrant communities,” Panetta said. “Serious and violent criminals must be held accountable for their actions, but targeting peaceful, hardworking members of our communities is wrong.”
Panetta was on the ground Friday to see the resupply happen along with fellow politician Monterey County Supervisor Mary Adams.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) released the following statement regarding President Trump's speech to a joint session of Congress.
"Last night, President Trump delivered his first speech before a joint session of Congress. Although he was measured in his tone, the President maintained the same divisive and dangerous message he used throughout his campaign.
“The president continued to rely on his narrative about immigrants posing a threat rather than being a benefit to our communities. The president's idea for a Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement department instills fear in and encourages discrimination against immigrant communities,” Panetta said.
