Praise for Panetta column on Iran nuclear deal
As a member of the Physicians for Social Responsibility, I want to praise Congressman Panetta's sophisticated Commentary endorsing the Iran Nuclear Deal (Herald, Sunday, Oct. 28). Nuclear holocaust is unthinkable.
Any lingering concern over Jimmy Panetta being a legacy candidate, or lacking the ability to fill Sam Farr's shoes, have been put to rest. His articulate presentation at the League of Women Voters this past week confirms our endorsement of him as our congressional representative.
The decision not to certify the continued implementation of the nuclear deal with Iran is dangerous. Taken alone, it will jeopardize our core national security interests in the Middle East and around the world. Fortunately, Congress has the ultimate say as to whether we stay in the agreement which, contrary to President Donald Trump's protestations, is a good deal for the United States.
WATSONVILLE — Since 1990, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been studying ways to improve the levees along the Pajaro River.
In the time since, the river flooded the town of Pajaro in 1995, leading to one death and $95 million in economic losses, and two other floods struck the area in 1997 and 1998, displacing hundreds of residents.
Now, after last winter's storms caused $10 million in damages to the federal levee system, including some flooding, the improvement project has kicked into high gear.
KING CITY — The City of King has officially expressed its support of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which grants a temporary reprieve from deportation for so-called "Dreamers," immigrants who were brought into the country as children by their parents.
