WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) along with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), and Ted W. Lieu (D-CA) authored and introduced the Keep Families Together Act of 2019. The legislation will prohibit DHS officials from separating children from their parents and institute safeguards to protect and promote the legal rights, health and wellness of asylum seekers, children, and their families. The bill has already garnered 184 additional co-sponsors.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) has been appointed as the Congressional Co-Chair of the bipartisan U.S.-Russia Joint Commission on Prisoners of War and Missing in Action (POW/MIAs).

"I am truly honored for this appointment as providing closure to the family, friends, and loved ones of missing servicemembers is a nonpartisan, necessary, and noble cause," said Congressman Panetta. "The work of the Joint Commission also reaffirms our respective countries' commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation on POW/MIA issues."

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) introduced the Clear Creek National Recreation Area and Conservation Act, H.R. 403. The legislation directs the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to protect 21,000 acres of BLM land adjacent to Clear Creek by designating the area the Joaquin Rocks Wilderness. It would also reopen the 63,000-acre Clear Creek National Recreation Area in San Benito and Fresno counties for public outdoor recreation, including off-road vehicles and hiking.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) and 44 other Members of the California delegation slammed President Donald Trump's false and defamatory statements on Twitter about the California wildfires. They were joined by House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03). Calling the President's language appalling, the Members corrected the record regarding federal government oversight of California forests and demanded he restore federal support to those recovering from wildfires.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) cosponsored four bills to stop new offshore oil and gas developments. The California Clean Coast Act, to permanently ban future offshore oil and gas leasing in areas of the Outer Continental Shelf off the coast of California, and the West Coast Ocean Protection Act to permanently ban these actions off the coast of California, Oregon, and Washington.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), a member of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, cosponsored H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. The bill expands the existing background check system to cover all commercial firearm sales, including those at gun shows, over the internet, or in classified ads, while providing reasonable exceptions for family and friend transfers.
