WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), along with Reps. Antonio Delgado (NY-19), Don Beyer (VA-08), Mike Kelly (PA-16), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), and Don Bacon (NE-02) co-introduced H.R. 2912, the bipartisan Military Spouse Hiring Act, legislation that incentivizes employers to hire spouses of members of the United States Armed Forces.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) and Congressman Doug LaMalfa's (R-CA-01) legislation, the Honoring Veterans' Families Act. The bipartisan legislation allows the spouse and dependent children of a veteran to be included on the veteran's grave marker upon their death. Due to a flaw in current law, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) cannot include almost any information about the spouse of a veteran on a VA-provided tombstone at a non-VA cemetery.

The Better Military Housing Act requires the Department of Defense, in consultation with military families, to develop and implement a strategy to improve privatized military housing.

H.R.1911, "The SFC Brian Woods Gold Star and Military Survivors Act," is named in honor of Army Sgt. 1st Class William B. Woods Jr. who served as an Army Green Beret with Congressman Michael Waltz (R-FL), vice-chair of the caucus.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Central Coast Field Office (CCFO) released a proposal for oil and gas exploitation on the central coast of California. The administration wants to open more than 700,000 acres of public land to new oil and gas drilling. Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Fresno counties are included in the proposal.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that he is an original cosponsor to bipartisan legislation repealing an unnecessary tax hike on Gold Star families.

The 2017 tax law reclassified how Gold Star children's assets are taxed, increasing the tax rate on their survivor benefits from 12 to 15 percent up to 37 percent.

The Gold Star Family Tax Relief Act, H.R. 2481, introduced by Congresswoman Elaine Luria (D-VA), would reclassify such benefits as earned income, significantly reducing the tax burden.
