Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) along with Congressman Mike Simpson (R-ID-02) and Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) introduced the bipartisan Repairing Existing Public Land by Adding Necessary Trees Act, known as the REPLANT Act, to help the U.S. Forest Service plant 1.2 billion trees on national forests and create nearly 49,000 jobs over the next ten years.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) and his House colleagues passed H.R. 1620, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021. The landmark Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994 called for the protection of all Americans from violence and abuse and ensured survivors had access to essential services and to justice. Reauthorizing VAWA serves to improve and strengthen the bill's protections for survivors. Congressman Panetta is a cosponsor of the legislation.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) reintroduced the bipartisan, bicameral Monarch Action, Recovery, and Conservation of Habitat (MONARCH) Act as well as the Monarch and Pollinator Highway Act. Representatives Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24) and Rodney Davis (R-IL-12) co-led introduction of the bipartisan MONARCH Act and Representative Salud Carbajal co-led introduction of the Monarch and Pollinator Highway Act in the House of Representatives.

DLI Act

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced the introduction of the Defense Language Improvement (DLI) Act. The legislation authorizes the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) to grant a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign language to any graduate who fulfills the degree requirements. Currently, DLIFLC may confer an Associate of Arts degree in a foreign language.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) and his House colleagues passed two bills that would enhance background checks for gun sales. H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, would require a background check for every gun sale or transfer while providing reasonable exceptions for family and friend transfers. H.R.

Congress Passes the VA VACCINE Act 2021

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) commended the unanimous House passage of H.R. 1276, the VA VACCINE Act. Congressman Panetta is a cosponsor of the legislation, which expands the Department of Veterans Affairs' ability to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to all veterans, including those not enrolled in the VA healthcare system, and their caregivers.

Congressman Panetta Calls for Emergency Federal Funding Following January Storm Damage to Nacimiento  Fergusson Road

Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) has sent a letter to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) leadership requesting accelerated funding through the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) program to support critical repairs of Nacimiento-Fergusson Road in the Monterey District of the Los Padres National Forest (LPNF). The funding will be used to repair damages sustained during the January 2021 winter storms.

This week, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted for the House passage of H.R. 1, the For The People Act. The legislative package of pro-democracy and anti-corruption reforms will help end the era of big and dark special-interest money in politics, improve voting access, promote election integrity and security, strengthen campaign finance transparency and oversight, fortify ethics laws, and impose greater ethics enforcement for public servants.
