Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) along with Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA-18), Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA-14), Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-02), and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (R-IN-02), re-introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to spur investment in innovative new energy technology. The Clean Energy Production Parity Act would ensure tax parity for linear generators, a highly efficient clean energy technology comparable to fuel cells. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced the companion bill in the Senate.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) released a statement on the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) determination to not use Camp Roberts as a temporary facility to house unaccompanied children under 18 years old who have crossed the southern border in an attempt to avail themselves of the laws of the United States. HHS has officially notified the Department of Defense that the agency is no longer moving forward with considering Camp Roberts as a temporary site to house unaccompanied minors.

Congressman Panetta Introduces Legislation  to Protect Transgender Military Dependents
June 1, 2021

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) led 38 of his colleagues in introducing the Armed Forces Transgender Dependent Protection Act to ensure the appropriate and necessary healthcare for transgender and gender non-conforming dependents of active duty service members. The measure would prevent the Department of Defense from stationing service members and their transgender dependents in states or countries that prohibit or otherwise restrict gender affirming healthcare and treatments for these Americans.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) and Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced the bicameral Wildfire Emergency Act to reduce catastrophic wildfires in the American West. Congressman Panetta is joined by California Representatives John Garamendi, Salud Carbajal, Josh Harder, Jim Costa, Lou Correa and Mike Thompson in introducing the House version of the legislation.

In addition to Senator Feinstein, the Senate bill is cosponsored by Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR).

Today, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) joined Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) and the White House in announcing an agreement on the size and scope of leasing to allow for offshore wind development off California's Central Coast in Morro Bay. The area available for offshore wind development would span 399 square miles, enough to produce 3GW of energy, which represents the largest proposed floating offshore wind project in the United States. The project will be located in Northern San Luis Obispo County, outside of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Monterey County.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) voted in support of S. 937, the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, landmark legislation that strengthens the nation's defenses against hate crimes committed against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. This bipartisan bill, which will help combat anti-AAPI discrimination and violence stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, will now go to President Biden's desk to be signed into law.

Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) released the following statement on the first complaint filed under Rapid Response Mechanism of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). For the first time, the tool is being used to pursue justice for autoworkers in Mexico whose labor rights were allegedly violated, breaching USMCA labor standards.
