Rep. Panetta Highlights $3 Million Federal Grant for Monterey Regional Airport Enhancements

February 27, 2023

Monterey, CA – U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) applauded a $3 million grant secured for Monterey Regional Airport which will provide for the design and construction of a replacement terminal to better serve Monterey County. Federal funding is through the Airport Terminal Program established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which was signed by President Joe Biden on November 15, 2021. Monterey Regional Airport previously received $2.14 million in federal funding for this project in 2022.

"Monterey Regional Airport is vital to the infrastructure of our communities, serving hundreds of thousands of customers each year," said Rep. Panetta. "This new federal investment will help ensure Monterey Regional Airport can continue to serve the Central Coast of California with safe and modern facilities that enhance experience of travelers and the efficiency of its operations. I was proud to support this critical funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and will continue to fight for the federal support that our local communities deserve."

"The Monterey Regional Airport is excited to learn about the release of this very important grant to support the design of the new passenger terminal building," said Monterey Regional Airport Executive Director Michael La Pier. "As we continue to work toward completion of the Safety Enhancement Program at the airport, we are grateful for the support we have received from Representative Panetta in our efforts. This grant, and the continued assistance of our Representative are key factors in our effort to ensure Monterey Regional Airport is positioned to meet the future needs of our region in a safe, responsible and forward-looking manner."

"The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is continuing to deliver for California," said Senator Padilla. "This latest round of federal dollars coming to California will make our airports, including the Monterey Peninsula Airport District, safer and more accessible to passengers, with upgrades to modernize terminals and improve energy efficiency. This is a big win that creates jobs and improves the experience for the millions of Californians and visitors who travel through our airports."

Rep. Panetta previously announced nearly $11 million in federal funding to Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, this year, alongside Reps. Ro Khanna, Anna Eshoo, and Zoe Lofgren.

Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act $5 billion has been granted to provide competitive grants for airport terminal development projects that address the aging infrastructure of the nation's airports. These grants fund safe, sustainable and accessible airport terminals, on-airport rail access projects and airport-owned airport traffic control towers.
