ELKHORN — The Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve received a $685,000 federal grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.
The grant will fund improvements to the Reserve's Visitor Center, including the construction of a redesigned parking lot and walkway to improve accessibility. The new parking lot will better support traffic flow from the entrance gate and create a designated school bus drop off area.
Congressman Jimmy Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, announced a $685,000 federal grant Aug. 21 for the enhancement of the visitor center at Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve.
The grant, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, will support the second phase of the visitor center's enhancement project, and will primarily be used for a redesign of the reserve's parking lot and walkway to increase accessibility, traffic flow and create a school bus drop drop-off area.
It will also be used to create natural water catchment in landscaped "bio-swales."
North Monterey County >> Visitors to the Elkhorn Slough will see a number of improvements thanks to a federal grant.
The Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is planning to spend a $685,000 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association on a second phase of its visitor services enhancement project, including upgraded parking and walkway, a designated school bus drop off area, and a water catchment system.
KING CITY — Mesa Del Rey Airport in King City has received a $454,050 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for new runway lights.
"The City is very excited to receive approval for this grant, which will represent a tremendous investment in the Mesa Del Rey Airport," said City Manager Steve Adams. "It is part of an overall City effort to make improvements at the airport to better manage this valuable community asset."
