Economy and Business

Through my Committee assignments, I am in a unique position to advance values in California's 19th Congressional District. The Ways and Means and the Budget Committees are at the center of our work in Congress to create an economic environment that fosters prosperity for all of our communities and helps set trade policies that benefit our district, including those that expand exports for agriculture, a critical industry.

In 2023, I helped secure $719 million to support the expansion of local clean energy operations, particularly in the clean energy storage sector. I was proud to help author and pass into law the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) during the 117th Congress, landmark legislation that represented the single largest investment in human history to tackle climate change. The investments that we made in clean energy last Congress are transforming our country and enabling us to reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency, and create thousands of jobs in the process. Since the passage of the IRA, more than 211,000 jobs have been created, with nine million new jobs projected by 2030.  In just one year, the investments of this legislation have spurred approximately $242.81 billion in private investments, largely in building clean energy technology. I’m working hard to secure federal support for the innovative initiatives taking place in our community and proud that the 19th Congressional District is leading the way when it comes to reducing our carbon output.

After years of underinvestment, I was proud to support the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act last Congress which made significant investments in our infrastructure.  The impact of this law is being felt locally by improving our supply chains, bolstering our economy, increasing jobs, helping prevent wildfires, enhancing rural broadband, broadening our water resources, and fighting the effects of climate change. This major investment in our infrastructure was only the beginning.  I’m working in Congress to ensure California’s 19th Congressional District is more modern, resilient, and sustainable.  Over the last year, I helped secure over $504 million to improve infrastructure in our home.

I continue working across the aisle on efforts to reduce the cost of living for families throughout California's 19th Congressional District. I'm continuing to fight for tax credits for childcare, immediate expensing for small businesses investments in research and development, tax-free settlements for natural disasters, tax extensions and federal relief for families and communities who are rebuilding following a natural disaster, additional support for women, minority, and veteran-owned businesses, and incentives for the development of more affordable housing.

I strongly believe that a growing economy is one that is innovative and worker-centric. I am committed to moving forward with that vision in Congress.
