Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Carmel Valley, said Thursday the president's action posed a threat to the country's environmental, economic, and national security. Panetta was at the Moss Landing Marine Lab taking part in one of multiple roundtable discussions he has on his docket addressing climate change.

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Fire Department and the Gonzales Fire Department are among four Monterey County cities that were chosen to receive a grant totaling $853,694 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

The grants were announced by Congressman Jimmy Panetta on May 25.

CASTROVILLE, Calif. - UPDATE 05/29/17 6:00PM: The Central Coast has a rich military history, which means it's not hard to find a ceremony to attend on this Memorial Day. One particular ceremony had our local political figures come out and share their experiences.

The Castroville Public Cemetery is the final resting place for many Central Coast Veterans, and on this Memorial Day, the tradition of honoring those who fought and died for our country continued.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), announced that three colleges and universities on the central coast of California have received federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education's Upward Bound Program. Hartnell College received two federal grants, totaling $515,000. California State University Monterey Bay received two federal grants totaling $574,556. Monterey Peninsula College received a federal grant totaling $400,107.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), announced that Salud Para La Gente and Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas will receive federal grants from the Health Resources and Service Administration. Salud Para La Gente will receive an award totaling $2,277,358 and Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas will receive an award totaling $3,772,671.

Area colleges and universities were awarded nearly $1.5 mln in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education.

The Department of Education's Upward Bound Program Math and Science Centers funds programs that train high school students from underserved families where neither parent received a college degree. The goal is to prepare them for college and ready them for careers in math and science.
