U.S. Rep. Panetta Welcomes President Biden to 19th Congressional District to Survey Storm Damage and Speak to Constituents

January 20, 2023

Santa Cruz, CA – U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) welcomed President Joe Biden to California's 19th Congressional District to survey damage from the recent severe storms that impacted California and speak to his constituents. Rep. Panetta greeted President Biden in Watsonville and then traveled with President Biden to Capitola, Aptos, and Seacliff State Beach. This was the only stop that the President made to survey storm damage and speak to people affected by the recent storms in California.

Rep. Panetta recently led the entire California Congressional and Senate delegation in its request for an expedited major disaster declaration for the state. Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Luis Obispo Counties have since been designated for additional public and individual support from the federal government. Rep. Panetta authored and co-led a letter alongside Reps. Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), and Representative Ro Khanna (CA-17) requesting that Santa Clara County also receive federal relief as part of the major disaster declaration.

"Although the severe storms have passed for now, the recovery is just beginning for all of us," said Rep. Panetta. "Fortunately, President Biden made clear that he and the resources of the federal government ‘are here and aren't going anywhere' for the people of the 19th Congressional District. I want to thank the President for coming, listening, and acting for my constituents and for all of his support to ensure that our communities are able to repair, recover, and return to normal in an effective and efficient manner."
