Santa Clara County Reps Announce $8.5M to Make Roads Safer in San Jose
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), and Ro Khanna (CA-17) announced that the City of San Jose will receive $8,500,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to deploy a speed safety camera program to enhance road safety in San Jose.
“Over the past decades, along with population growth in Santa Clara County, we’ve seen increased road traffic and more accidents. The safety of our community members is a top priority, and we support robust investments like this one that help make our roads safer. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Democrats passed in the last Congress, the City of San Jose will be able to improve pedestrian and driver safety. We look forward to seeing the positive impact that this funding will have on our community,” said Reps. Panetta, Lofgren, Eshoo, and Khanna.
This funding is part of the DOT’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, which supports the planning and implementation of safety action plans to address roadway safety issues. This speed safety camera program is part of the City of San Jose’s Vision Zero plan to reduce and eventually eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries.
The SS4A funding and grant program was created and funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Reps. Lofgren, Eshoo, Khanna, and Panetta voted in favor of.
