Santa Clara County House Reps Announce $1.1M+ for Crime Prevention Programs in San Jose

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), and Ro Khanna (CA-17) announced that the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs will distribute a total of $1,104,002 in federal funding to support programs in San Jose that help prevent human trafficking and internet crimes.

“The safety and security of children and families in the Bay Area must always be prioritized. Our area is fortunate to have many organizations and government programs that are focused on protecting our most vulnerable community members. We are proud to provide federal funding to increase resources and services available to victims of human trafficking and to combat the online exploitation of children and young people,” said. Reps. Panetta, Lofgren, Eshoo, and Khanna.

The Members announced the following two grants:

  • $664,004 to the City of San Jose to support the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program (SVICAC) develop effective strategies to respond to and prevent internet crimes.
  • $439,998 to the International Rescue Committee of San Jose to develop an anti-trafficking program that serves people in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo counties.

This funding is part of the Office of Justice Programs, which provides federal funding and technical assistance to strengthen community safety, promote civil rights, and increase access to justice.
