Reps. Khanna, Lofgren, Eshoo, and Panetta Applaud $500 Million in Proposed Funding for BART Silicon Valley Phase II Project

March 15, 2023

Washington, DC – Today, Representatives Ro Khanna (CA-17), Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) released the following statement applauding the Department of Transportation for recommending $500 million in funding for the BART Silicon Valley Phase II Project.

The project would extend BART's Silicon Valley service from the Berryessa Station through downtown San Jose to the City of Santa Clara. The expanded six miles of service through Silicon Valley will increase connectivity and economic opportunity throughout the region.

"Expanding public transit in Silicon Valley will create good-paying construction jobs, generate economic activity, and help tackle the climate crisis by reducing emissions and traffic in the long term," the lawmakers said. "We are thrilled to see this investment included in the Department of Transportation's funding recommendations and we will continue to advocate for this critical funding for our communities."

The BART to Silicon Valley Phase II Project is one of 18 large transit projects across 11 states recommended to receive $4.45 billion for construction by the Department of Transportation as part of President Biden's Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Budget Request to Congress.
