Panetta Statement on the Trump Administration's Decision to Withdraw from the Clean Power Plan
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) issued the following statement after U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to repeal the Clean Power Plan:
"The Trump administration's irresponsible decision to withdraw from the Clean Power Plan reinforces the notion that the administration does not recognize climate change as a legitimate threat to the economic, environmental, and national security interests of our country. Backing out of this commitment undermines the progress that has been made in reducing carbon emissions and undercuts our nation's credibility to lead on current global issues that will affect future generations.
"Congress now must work together to come up with meaningful policies to combat climate change and counter these types of damaging decisions by the Trump administration. As a member of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, I am working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to deal with the effects of climate change and defend critical environmental protections. I will continue to fight for strong environmental standards that will help communities on the central coast of California and across our nation."
