Panetta Statement on President Trump’s Latest Muslim Ban Executive Order

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) released the following statement in response to President Trump's latest Muslim ban executive order:

"President Trump's latest executive order banning travelers from six predominantly Muslim countries appears to be just as unconstitutional and un-American as his first. This ban, which was allegedly rewritten to withstand legal scrutiny, again fails to justify discrimination against refugees and travelers based on their nationality and religion.

"It is a proud American tradition to welcome displaced men, women, and children facing unspeakable violence. While the Trump administration claims that this executive order will protect the American people, it instead emboldens our adversaries and gives them a tool for recruiting extremists. The Administration's discriminatory and intolerant actions threaten our alliances worldwide and lessen our credibly as a nation founded by immigrants. We are better than this."
