Panetta Announces U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Grant for Santa Cruz

October 24, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that Santa Cruz received federal grants totaling over $752,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grants will be provided through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs.

Santa Cruz will receive a CDBG grant totaling $498,973 and a HOME grant totaling $253,105.

"Providing affordable housing is one of the greatest challenges we face on the central coast of California," said Congressman Panetta. "These funds will help construct stable, safe housing in our community, and provide opportunity for people to build a better life for themselves and their families."

About the HUD Programs and Grants

The Community Development Block Grant program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
