WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), announced that three colleges and universities on the central coast of California have received federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education's Upward Bound Program. Hartnell College received two federal grants, totaling $515,000. California State University Monterey Bay received two federal grants totaling $574,556. Monterey Peninsula College received a federal grant totaling $400,107.
"I am proud to support these schools in their efforts to motivate and mentor underserved high school students in STEM fields," said Congressman Panetta. "With the right resources at their disposal, I firmly believe that anything is possible for these kids."
Upward Bound Math and Science Centers, a TRIO program, prepare high school students for postsecondary education programs that lead to careers in the fields of math and science. Federal TRIO programs are the primary federal programs providing support services to disadvantaged students to promote achievement in postsecondary education.
