Congressman Panetta Denounces Trump Administration's Ban on Transgender People Serving in the Military

March 23, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta denounced the Trump Administration's announcement that it would maintain its ban on transgender people serving in the military:

"All Americans, regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or creed, who are willing, ready, and able to wear the uniform and serve, should be allowed to fight for our country. The Administration's ban, which implements the same policy that was blocked by several courts, runs counter to the American values that our troops are fighting to protect. As an American, a veteran, and a Member of the Armed Services Committee, I am very disappointed in this announcement and will work with my colleagues to prevent its implementation."
