Congressman Panetta Cosponsors Legislation to Limit Size of Magazines
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) this week cosponsored H.R. 4052, the Keep Americans Safe Act, to prohibit the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of high-capacity magazines for firearms which hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
"High-capacity magazines allow an assailant to fire dozens or even hundreds of rounds at a time with reduced need to reload," said Congressman Panetta. "By limiting this capability, we can help law enforcement from being outgunned and seek to reduce deadly shooting incidents."
This bill is endorsed by leading law enforcement organizations like the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Major Cities Chiefs Association, the veterans' organization VoteVets, the gun owners' group American Coalition for Responsible Gun Ownership, as well as major gun violence prevention organizations throughout the country.
Congressman Panetta has also cosponsored HR 5087 the Assault Weapons Ban, HR 1478 the Gun Violence Research Act, HR 1832 for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct or support research on firearms safety or gun violence prevention, HR 2598 the Gun Violence Restraining Order Act of 2017, HR 2670 the Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act, HR 3947 the Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act, HR 4240 the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2017, and H.RES 367 establishing the Select Committee on Gun Violence Prevention.
