Congressman Panetta Co-Introduces Bill to Support National Park Workers

August 2, 2018

SALINAS, CA – Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) and Congressman Steve Knight (R-CA-25) introduced bipartisan legislation to support seasonal employees of the National Park Service (NPS). Under existing regulation, seasonal employees of the NPS are only permitted to work at one National Park annually. The bill, H.R. 6599, would amend the law to permit seasonal employees to work at multiple NPS sites in a given year.

"National parks throughout the nation, including our very own Pinnacles National Park, benefit from the dedicated public servants who are committed to improving access to the outdoors," said Congressman Panetta. "This bill will allow NPS seasonal employees to serve and educate visitors to public lands in multiple locations throughout the year."

"Among our most beloved blessings in America is the abundance of beautiful landscapes and wonders throughout our nation," said Congressman Knight. "California, in particular, has an especially high concentration of national parks. Seasonal employment with the NPS is often a great opportunity for people starting their careers or individuals who are passionate about sharing these treasures with other Americans and visitors from around the world. This bill will help improve the flexibility for NPS workers and allow them to fully engage with the important work that they do."
