April 10, 2020

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced the distribution of $4,956,508 in federal government grants for federal housing programs in California's 20th Congressional District to help respond to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The funding for these grants comes from the recently passed Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG).

"These HUD grants, which are a direct result of Congress' work to pass the CARES Act, will ensure crucial funding for our communities on the frontlines of our fight against this pandemic," said Congressman Panetta. "This federal funding is a big step in the right direction, but we will keep going forward to ensure that the federal government provides more support for our local governments on the central coast of California."

These funds can be used to support increased testing for and treatment of COVID-19, manufacturing of medical supplies, job training for health care workers, expansion of community health facilities, child care centers, food banks, senior services, emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness, and more.
