August 24, 2018

SALINAS, CA – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) announced that communities in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties will receive federal grants totaling over $2 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grants are provided through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investments Partnership (HOME) program.

Monterey County will receive funding totaling $1,394,327 through the CDBG. The city of Santa Cruz will receive funding totaling $543,095 through the CDBG and a HOME grant totaling $382,425.

"I am excited to see these resources put to use to address the considerable housing challenges throughout the central coast of California," said Congressman Panetta. "These investments will help provide our neighbors with job opportunities and an affordable place to live."

About the HUD Programs and Grants

The Community Development Block Grant program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

The HOME Investments Partnership (HOME) program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
