Panetta pays tribute to Day

June 7, 2019

PAYING TRIBUTE to one of Monterey County's — and the world's — favorite entertainers, Congressman Jimmy Panetta introduced legislation May 30 to honor singer and actress Doris Day, who died in Carmel Valley May 13 at 97.

The legislation is co-sponsored by Congressman Don Bacon, a Republican from Nebraska.

Panetta said Day left behind an impressive legacy.

"Doris Day's joyful spirit and love of animals will be missed by her neighbors on the central coast of California," the local congressman said. "As we reflect on all the incredible things that she accomplished for our community, we also recognize her important contributions to our culture."

Bacon said animal welfare groups in his district have benefited from grants made by the Doris Day Animal Foundation
