Panetta Statement on United Nations Security Council Resolution

January 5, 2017

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) released the following statement regarding his vote in support of the non-binding House Resolution (H.Res.11) disapproving the recent United Nations Security Council Resolution regarding Israeli settlements.

"Despite the violence and tension in the region, I remain optimistic that peace is achievable for Israel and Palestine through a two-state solution. Israel is the only democratic nation in the region and has long been America's strongest ally in the Middle East. The bond between our two nations is unbreakable. The recent UN Security Council Resolution 2334 does nothing to advance a durable, lasting peace through a two-state solution and was ill-advised.

"In Congress, I'm working to bring people of all political stripes together to move forward on solutions that will improve the lives of Central Coast residents, Americans and people across the world."
