Rep. Panetta Introduces Bipartisan Resolution Designating National Prosecutors Day to Recognize the Role of Prosecutors in our Community
Monterey, CA – United States Representative Jimmy Panetta, a former prosecutor for Monterey and Alameda Counties, authored and introduced a bipartisan resolution that would designate February 5, 2025, as National Prosecutors Day in recognition of the essential role prosecutors play in upholding justice, ensuring public safety, and advocating for victims' rights across the United States. Co-leading this resolution are Don Bacon (NE-02), Joe Neguse (CO-02), and Jim Baird (IN-04).
The resolution highlights the contributions of prosecutors in deterring crime, amplifying victims’ voices, and supporting trauma-informed, victim-centered initiatives. It also recognizes the collaborative efforts prosecutors undertake with law enforcement, community leaders, and advocacy organizations to promote public safety and social well-being.
“Prosecutors are dedicated public servants who work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law, protect our communities, and ensure that victims receive justice,” said Rep Panetta. “Their role extends beyond the courtroom, fostering trust between law enforcement and communities, advancing innovative public safety initiatives, and ensuring that our justice system remains fair and impartial. National Prosecutors Day is an opportunity to acknowledge their unwavering commitment and honor their indispensable service.”
“I send my congratulations to the NDAA for 75 years of supporting American’s prosecutors, who are an essential part of our legal system, deter criminal behavior, and also advocate for victims,” said Rep. Bacon. “I encourage Americans to join me in thanking prosecutors for their work to keep our communities safe and seek justice for victims.”
“Prosecutors play a critical role in our legal system and work with law enforcement to support crime victims and uphold community safety,” said Rep. Baird. “This legislation is particularly timely, as Indiana faces an attorney shortage that has left Hoosiers without the legal assistance they deserve. I am proud to join Congressman Panetta on this bipartisan legislation to recognize the essential contributions prosecutors make in our justice system.”
The resolution also commemorates the 75th year of service by the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) as the preeminent organization supporting America’s prosecutors, providing comprehensive training, critical resources, and impactful advocacy to uphold justice and protect communities nationwide.
